I woke up at 5:00 a.m. as usual, my biological clock having woken me up. I have been waking up like this for years now. I rose from my bed and made my way to the bathroom. Once inside, I splashed cold water on my face to wake up fully.
I went to the gym and worked out to keep myself in shape. After spending two hours there, I returned to my room and went inside the bathroom once again. I took the cold shower and completed my morning routine. I came out of the bathroom with a towel hanging around my waist. I made my way towards my cloakroom.
I put on my charcoal black suit, applied my favorite perfume, Dark Phantom, wore my watch, picked up my laptop bag, and made my way downstairs.
When I came down, I saw my parents, Tara Raisinghania and Vikram Raisinghania, and my younger siblings, Eklavya and Aanya, sitting at the dining table near the kitchen. They were all waiting for me so the whole family could have breakfast together.
"Good morning, everyone," I greeted them as I took my seat at the dining table.
"Good morning, beta," my parents replied.
"Good morning, Bhai," Eklavya and Aanya echoed, smiles on their faces.
We had our breakfast together, with Eklavya and Aanya teasing each other as usual. "Behave, you two." I said, my voice carrying hint of amusement.
Eklavya grinned at me and said, "Bhai, off to conquer the world again?"
"Every day." I replied as I stood up and made my way towards the door. My guards, always vigilant, fell into formation as I exited the house.
Surrounded by ten guards, with my security in charge, Advik Ahuja, at the helm, we moved towards the fleet of vehicles waiting outside. Four black SUVs led the way, four trailed behind, and I settled into the back seat of my black BMW. As we made our way to Black Crown Industries, I opened my MacBook and reviewed the reports for the day. Efficiency was non-negotiable.
Upon arriving at the 60-floor building of Black Crown Industries, I made my way through the lobby. Employees greeted me with a chorus of "Good morning, Mr. Raisinghania," but I didn't respond. I could feel their eyes avoiding mine, a sign of their fear and respect. No one has ever dared to look me straight in the eyes, as they are afraid of me. I made my way towards my private lift, which can only be used by me and no one else, no matter what.
When the elevator doors opened to my floor, Rivan, my secretary, was waiting.
"Sir, today is the interview for the PA position," he informed me. "You conduct them, Rivan. I have an important meeting," I replied, my tone curt.
Rivan nodded, understanding my unyielding demand for perfection. As I turned to head towards the meeting room, I felt someone bump into me. I instinctively reached out and caught a woman by her waist before she could fall. She closed her eyes, bracing for impact, but instead, she was steady in my arms. She had her hands wound around my neck, and I felt her nails digging into my skin.
"Yeh nakhun hai yaa keel jo bhi hai, chubhane band karo," I snapped, annoyed.
She opened her eyes, realization dawning on her about our position. Her face turned a delicate shade of pink. "I am sorry and Thank you for saving me," she muttered, but then stumbled again. I caught her once more, irritation creeping in.
What the hell is she doing here? I hate people who makes mistake, aur yeh ladki toh chalti phirti musibat lag rahi hai. I hate clumsiness, I thought.
"What are you doing here?" I demanded.
"I am Avle-" she began, but I cut her off.
"Answer what I asked you. I don't like people who talk unnecessarily," I stated coldly.
"I'm here for in-" she started again, but my phone rang. Without another word, I answered it and walked away, leaving her standing there.
As I continued to the meeting room, the brief encounter replayed in my mind. There was something about her, a spark I hadn't anticipated. But I quickly dismissed the thought. I didn't have time for distractions, especially not from clumsy people.
The meeting in the conference room had gone as planned, with every detail meticulously discussed and every decision made with precision. As I returned to my office, I settled into my chair, the weight of responsibility ever-present but familiar. Moments later, Rivan knocked and entered.
"Sir, I wanted to inform you that I've hired a PA for you. Her name is Avleen Kaur, and she will be joining the day after tomorrow."
I leaned back in my chair, considering his words. "Make sure she knows that there is no room for mistakes, Rivan. I expect more than perfection. If she doesn't perform up to my expectations, you will have to find a new PA soon."
Rivan nodded, his expression serious. "Understood, Mr. Raisinghania. I'll ensure she is fully aware of your standards."
"Good," I replied, turning my attention back to the reports on my desk. Efficiency was paramount, and I had no patience for incompetence. Avleen Kaur would have to prove herself from day one, or she wouldn't last long under my watch. As Rivan left the office, I couldn't help but think back to the brief encounter in the hallway. There was something intriguing about her, but I quickly dismissed the thought. There was no time for distractions, especially not now.

My alarm went off at 4 a.m., and I quickly got out of bed, determined to start the day right. After a refreshing shower, I dressed in my favorite white Anarkali with a vibrant pink dupatta. I accessorized with silver earrings, silver anklets with bells, and silver bangles. I wanted to look my best for the interview, hoping it would bring me one step closer to securing a better future for Angad and myself.
I double-checked my CV, making sure everything was in order, and then headed to the kitchen. I prepared breakfast and lunch for Angad, leaving a note to remind him of my interview. Gently, I kissed his forehead as he slept, whispering a silent prayer for good luck.
After a quick breakfast, I left the house and caught the 5 a.m. bus to Delhi. The journey was long, and I spent most of it rehearsing my answers and thinking about the rented apartments I had looked at. If I got the job, I would finalize one immediately.
I reached Delhi at 9:30 a.m., nerves twisting in my stomach. The Black Crown Industries building loomed ahead, an imposing 60-floor structure that seemed to touch the sky. Taking a deep breath, I walked inside, feeling small but resolute.
"Good morning," I greeted the receptionist with a smile, trying to hide my anxiety. She barely looked at me, simply directing me to the interview floor without returning my smile.
I made my way to the 60th floor through stairs. I know many people will think I am crazy, but being a claustrophobic didn't help much. I don't mind climbing 60 floors, but being in a closed space is a different story.
Finally, I reached 60th floor. I took a moment to catch my breath as I was too tired after climbing so many stairs. The whole building was like a maze, and I quickly became disoriented, unsure of where the interview room was. As I turned a corner, I bumped into someone and immediately felt myself losing balance. I closed my eyes, bracing for the fall.
Instead, I heard a cold voice. "Yeh naakhun hai yaa keel jo bhi hai, chubhane band karo."
I opened my eyes to see a man who looked like he had stepped out of a movie-a Greek god with a predatory gaze. He was holding me by my waist, steadying me. Before I could introduce myself, he demanded, "What are you doing here?"
"I am Avle-" I started, but he cut me off again, scolding me.
"Answer what I asked you. I don't like people who talk unnecessarily."
"I'm here for in-" I tried again, but his phone rang. He answered it and walked away without another word.
Fuming, I muttered under my breath, "What is wrong with him? Such an intimidating man. He thinks he can scare me, but he has never met someone like me. Everyone here acts like robots."
After a few more minutes of wandering, I finally found the interview room and met Rivan, the secretary who would be conducting my interview. Despite my nerves, I focused on answering his questions, highlighting my skills and experience without mentioning Angad's health condition. Rivan seemed impressed by my knowledge and dedication.
"Ms. Avleen, we would like to hire you. Can you start the day after tomorrow?" Rivan asked, a rare smile playing on his lips.
"Yes, absolutely. Thank you so much!" I replied, feeling a wave of relief and excitement wash over me.
As I left the building, my thoughts drifted back to the intimidating man I had encountered. Whoever he was, he wouldn't scare me away. I had faced worse and survived. This was just the beginning of my journey at Black Crown Industries, and I was ready for whatever challenges lay ahead.
After my interview at Black Crown Industries, I decided to finalize an apartment on rent. I called the landlords of the three places I had shortlisted and arranged visits. After looking at all three, I chose one that felt just right-a cozy 2 BHK with furniture and everything already set up. I signed the rental agreement and felt a wave of relief wash over me. With this task completed, I headed back to Punjab.
It was evening by the time I reached home. Excitement bubbled within me as I prepared to share the good news with Angad. I packed our belongings, carefully organizing our clothes, books, and personal items. When Angad woke up from his nap, I couldn't contain my excitement any longer.
"Angad, guess what? I got the job!" I announced, grinning from ear to ear.
His eyes lit up. "Really, Di? That's amazing!"
To celebrate, I had brought his favorite sweets and some dinner on my way back from Delhi. We enjoyed our meal together, the atmosphere filled with hope and anticipation for the future.
The next day, I booked a cab to take us to Delhi. The driver helped us load our bags, and we began our journey. Angad was excited and curious about our new home. When we arrived, he helped me decorate the place, adding personal touches to make it feel like ours.
I cleaned the house, and Angad helped by passing me cleaning cloths and with other supplies. I started with the living room first, adjusting the position of the couch to our liking. We decorated living room with vases and flowers. We also hanged our pictures on the wall.
After cleaning the living room, I moved to the kitchen, where I cleaned and organized spices and other ingredients into their respective containers. Angad helped me label them. Then soon it was lunch time and I prepared lunch for both of us. I helped Angad onto the couch and we both sat there and had our lunch.
"Angad, you should rest now till then I will clean the bedrooms." I said while standing up, my voice full of concern for my little brother.
"But I want to help, Di." Angad said with insistence in his voice.
I understand his concern though he never mentioned it, but I know he feels like he can't do anything because of his disability. Being his elder sister, I will keep trying to make him understand that his disability doesn't make him any less. The job I got will help me to provide him with best treatment. I know one day; he will be standing on his feet.
I knelt down to his level and took his hands in mine. "Angad, I know you want to help me, but you need to rest too. You can't overexert yourself. I just want you to take a small nap. After cleaning the rooms, we need to decorate them, and I need your help with that." I said, trying to persuade him as I know how stubborn he can be sometimes.
Angad said forwarding his pinky finger towards me, "Okay, Di. I will take the nap but promise me you will wake me up before decorating the rooms."
"I Promise." I said intervening my pinky finger with his and promising him. I helped Angad lie down on the couch, brought a quilt from the bag, and covered him with it. Angad soon fell asleep.
I went to clean the bedrooms. It took me 2 hours to clean both the rooms. It was evening by now and I started preparing for the dinner. After cooking, I went to wake him up.
"Angad, wake up." I said shaking him gently.
"Di, are you done with cleaning?" Angad asked, his voice heavy with sleep. "Yes, Angad, I am done with cleaning. Do you want to help me with decorations."
"Of course, Di." Angad said, his voice full of excitement. He quickly sat up on the sofa while I brought his wheelchair. I helped him in sitting comfortably on it. I wheeled him into his room and we both decorated it. He was telling where to keep his things and like how. I did as he instructed.
After finishing his room, we moved into mine. Angad was helping me by passing our picture frames, fairly lights and other decorative stuff while I was hanging and keeping the things just like in our home back at Ludhiana.
After this, we had our dinner which I had already prepared before. Then I unpacked our bags. I neatly arranged Angad's clothes in his closet and helped him to bed.
I covered him with quilt and kissed his forehead and said with affection in my tone, "Goodnight, putt. Call me if you need anything, okay?"
"Good night, Di. I will call you if there's anything I need. Don't worry." Angad replied assuring me and I left his room. I once again checked everything, and we were done with all the work.
I came to my room and unpacked my bag and arranged my clothes in closet and now I just need my bed, nothing else. I lie on the bed, staring at the ceiling, I wondered what this new chapter in our lives will bring- happiness, excitement or adventures. No matter what it will brings, I will be ready to face it.
